BYDP is leading the 16 month Extend project funded by the DCLG and partnering with Bradford Council. We are one of 80 successful projects out of 600 national applicants. Extend is seeking to bring better services and activity for young people aged 8-25 in BD3, BD5 and BD8. Extend involves partnerships with grassroots local organisations, all with extensive track records.
In summer 2017, Bangladeshi Youth Organisation (BYO), WBYI, Bradford Study Support Network (BSSN) and Karmand Centre asked 249 young people in BD3, BD5 & BD8 about their needs. They told us that there was not enough activity to help them develop their skills in arts & crafts, volunteering and learning. Not enough activity was available for girls. Only 33% said they felt safe in their communities.
From December 2017, we are making changes with the activity that we offer to respond to these challenges raised by young people. Partners are fully committed to seeking the best opportunities for young people to thrive in our communities and the evidence is clear for what needs to happen. We want to be together for youth.
